On the road again…

Well, it’s great to be on the road again. I’m back in the touring mindset and loving it. There’s a certain feeling you get once your only mission is to drive town to town, play music, and meet new people. It’s both epic and meditative at the same time. I’m in a cool coffee shop in Athens, GA right now…sipping a dark roast and updating my website.
Sadly, I left my computer charger back in Austin, so every city I go to… I have to find a coffeeshop, sit next to someone with a macbook, and borrow their charger for an hour. Luckily most mac-users are really nice (although I was in one coffeeshop where everyone had Dells and I was out of luck).

The first night inĀ Lake Charles, LA was awesome – great crowd came out to The Porch Coffee House and my good friend James Guillbeaux opened up the night. Great city with great people and great friends. I’m hoping to swing back through on my tour down in January.
New Orleans was awesome as usual and 1000X nicer when it’s not hot and muggy, like it was in August. I met the standard fair of crazy people, such as this character above who wore old-timey closing, had a sweet handlebar moustache, and talked like he was from the 1920s. There he is jamming on my guitar. Very “Tom Waits-ish” voice.
Mobile, AL was excellent and I spent two days this time. Awesome show at Serda’s Coffee on Friday and the couchsurfing host extraordinaire, Kenneth Jones, cooked me amazing Seared Ahi Tuna tacos (and gourmet egg sandiwches the night before). Sometime I feel like I get treated too well on the road…must eat more PB&Js and beans. We also went to the Mobile Greek Fest, ate gyros, went to a friends Barley Wine beer tasting (picture below….yes, it was just as awesome as it looks) and then got treated to a free Galactic show at the Soul Kitchen. I also learned about the game “Ring On A String” – if you read this far, ask me about it next time you see me.

After
Last night, I chilled and did a chilly outdoor show in Birmingham, AL. Now, I’m in Athens, GA which is just as cool as I’ve heard. People always said it’s like a mini-Austin. From first look, it kind of seems like it. I’ll let you know after two days of hanging here what it is like… off to play 2 sorority houses tomorrow. Should be fun : )
Catch you soon! Keep updated on my facebook as well.
